Comprehensive Eye Exam
We believe that a comprehensive eye examination is far more than just the measurement of your prescription for glasses. During your examination we perform tests which allow us to assess how well your eyes focus and work together, screen for eye health issues such as cataracts, macular degeneration, and glaucoma. Eye examinations performed with this attention to detail can also show us early signs of diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. This is why we recommend that even if you have 20/20 vision and do not require glasses it is essential that you have an annual eye health examination. Dry Eye Clinic
Probably one of the most common conditions experience is dry eyes. It may sound like a minor problem but many problems that we have with our eyes may be caused by unidentified dry eye syndrome. Symptoms of dry eyes may include the following:
- Tired, strained eyes
- Dull, aching eyes
- Watery eyes
- Light sensitivity
- Burning while reading or using the computer
Our dry eye clinic is designed to specifically address the condition. We begin by thoroughly assessing your tear production, quantity, and quality. In addition, we review your history for any medical conditions or medications which may be contributing to the condition. Based on these test results the doctor will prescribe treatment. It can vary from eye drops and nutritional supplements to medication and additional procedures. Most dry eye conditions can be managed successfully if treated correctly.
Glaucoma
It is known as ‘the silent thief of vision’. Glaucoma is a disease that gradually causes damage to the optic nerve and usually does so unnoticed. If left untreated it can lead to partial or complete loss of vision. The good news is that our doctors routinely screen for this condition and are experienced in treating the condition should the need arise. We have specialized equipment to test and manage glaucoma.
Cataract Treatment
Cataracts occur when the lens located inside the eye becomes clouded. Cataracts are a natural part of the aging process, caused from years of exposure to sunlight. The clouded lens distorts and blocks the passage of light through the eye to the retina, causing vision to be dull, blurred, and indistinct. While cataracts can affect people of any age, they are most common in older adults. In fact, two-thirds of all adults over age 60 have some sign of cataracts. Symptoms usually include light sensitivity, halos, and blurred vision.
